There are many shortcomings in the system. Not all sections are obvious, some are out of place. The interface is not convenient for use from a tablet. Maps are very overloaded by default. Working with tables is not convenient. The system generally takes a long time to load after small user actions. And many other problems
After conducting detailed research of competitors and services for agribusiness, we identified strengths and weaknesses. After the brainstorming session, we selected even more ideas that were later implemented in the interface solution.
After the new flow was approved, we started a large part of the prototype development. There were a lot of ideas and solutions that were not approved, and there were many new ones that we decided to implement. As a result, the prototype has changed a lot in the final version
There were many sections, and there were also many types of display in each section. Some sections had large flows that could be considered a separate service within the service
The design work did not start with the UI kit. The design system was very large and was developed gradually. As we finalized a new block, we added elements to the UI Kit. Thus, it was constantly growing
Most of the work happens in the office, on a large screen: agronomists and managers read and compare data. But part of the team works in the field and enters data from a tablet.
The layout had to hold dense analytics on desktop and stay workable at arm's length.Colour does one job here. The interface stays grey and quiet, and bright orange marks only what the user is meant to act on — nothing else competes for it.
The map was the hardest part. It can hold machinery, fields and infrastructure at once — up to twelve layers — and early versions tried to show them all. The fix was to stop adding: no task needs more than three or four layers to answer one question. So I capped the count and built presets instead — one set for field inspection, another for weather. Transparency does the rest, so layers read through each other rather than cover each other.
The mobile version managed to convey the concept. Minimalist style, created tension through almost tangent large elements
After the redesign I ran five rounds of moderated usability testing with 10 agronomists in total, four to seven tasks per round. The numbers below come from that testing, not from production analytics.
